Combating Unconscious Bias and Creating an Upstander Culture

Tuesday, May 21, 2019 11 a.m.
Forsgate Country Club

375 Forsgate Dr., Monroe Township, NJ 08821
This event is open to men and women.

Most of us understand that we can’t discriminate against someone and treat them differently because of their race, sex or religion. But, what about unconscious discrimination?

During PIANJ’s Women’s Business Forum, Katherin Nukk-Freeman, co-founder of Nukk-Freeman & Cerra, P.C. Employment Attorneys, will discuss how to identify unconscious bias and the science behind why people may instinctively make certain choices.

Plan to attend this forum if you are interested in learning how:

  • Assumptions about social identities (e.g., race, sex, age, sexual orientation, religion and disability)—without awareness or conscious control—shape likes and dislikes and judgments about ability, potential and character.
  • Unconscious bias presents in the workplace and community.
  • The Implicit Association test along with other studies have helped bring these biases to light.
  • Inclusive leadership and inclusive cultures are the keys to achieving a positive impact.
